Learn English with story level 1 - Mouse trap

Hello! Welcome to Natural English.

Today we are going to do English-speaking practice. We will learn English through story named Mouse trap. This is English story for listening. We hope that you can improve your skill by listening English story.

Part 2: Vocabulary:

Tiptoe   verb  /ˈtɪp.təʊ/  -->  つま先で歩く  /  끝으로 살금살금 걷다  /   Đi rón rén 

to walk quietly on your toes.

Example:    

He waited until his daughter was asleep, then he tiptoed quietly out of the room.    

She tiptoed to the kitchen.

Peek   verb /piːk/  -->   盗(ぬす)み見(み)する  /  몰래 엿보다 /  liếc trộm 

to take a quick look, especially secretly.

Example:    

He opened the door slightly and peeked out.

She peeked inside.

Nibble       verb   /ˈnibl/ -->     かじって食べる  /         군것질하다 /         gặm

to eat something by taking very small bites.

Example:    

It was nibbling on some pieces of food.       

She was nibbling a biscuit.

Scream  verb       /skriːm/  --> 悲鳴をあげる  /  비명을 지르다  /  gào thét

to make a loud, high noise with your voice because you are afraid or hurt.

Example:    

He was screaming in agony.

Sarah screamed.

Cupboard    noun   /ˈkabəd/   -->   戸棚   /   찬장 /    tủ ly

a cabinet of any size up to that of a small room for storing anything; closet.

Example:    

Put the food in the cupboard.   

Grab          verb   /ɡrab/ -->  をつかむ   /  붙잡다, 쥐다   / chộp lấy

to take hold of something or someone suddenly with your hand.

Example:    

He grabbed a biscuit.     

She grabbed a mousetrap.

Mousetrap    noun   /ˈmaʊs.træp/  -->  ネズミ捕り  /  쥐덫  /  bẫy chuột

a mechanical trap for a mouse.

Example:    

She grabbed a mousetrap.        

the mousetrap caught the mouse.

Catch        verb   /kӕtʃ/ -->     をつかむ    /         붙잡다   /         bắt lấy

to stop and hold something which is moving; to capture.

Example:    

He caught the cricket ball.

Sarah went to the kitchen and saw that the mousetrap caught the mouse.

 

Part 3: Summary of the article:

Sarah couldn't sleep due to noises coming from the kitchen. Curious, she tiptoed there and spotted a mouse nibbling on food. Sarah screamed, causing the mouse to flee. Determined to catch it, she grabbed a mousetrap from the cupboard and set it on the floor. After waiting for a while without any sign of the mouse, Sarah returned to bed. The following morning, she discovered that the mousetrap had indeed caught the mouse. Sarah smiled and felt happy that the kitchen was once again quiet.
