 Hello! Welcome to Natural English.

Today we are going to do English-speaking practice. We will learn English through story named Gumball. This is English story for listening. We hope that you can improve your skill by listening English story.

Part 2: Vocabulary:

Shiny    adj   /ˈʃaɪ·ni/  -->  ぴかぴかの  /  빛나는  /  sáng chói  

A shiny surface is bright because it reflects light.

 Example:  

Mark found a shiny penny. 

a shiny cover on a book

Flip    verb   /flip/  -->  スナップ  /  스냅  /  búng  

to throw something in the air. 

Example:   He flipped it in the air.  

They flipped a coin to see which side it landed on.

Spin    verb   /spin/  -->  くるくる回る  /  돌다, 회전하다  /  quay tròn  

go round and round rapidly. 

Example:  

The penny spun around. 

The car spun across the road.

Gumball    noun   /ɡam boːl/  -->  ガムボール  /  검볼  /  Kẹo cao su  

chewing gum 

Example: 

 He saw a gumball machine.  

He chews gum when he is working.

Insert    verb   /inˈsəːt/  -->  を差し込む  /  넣다  /  chèn vào  

to put something into something else. 

Example:  

Mark inserted a coin. 

He inserted the money in the parking meter

Roll    verb   /rəul/  -->  転がる  /  구르다  /  lăn  

to move by turning over like a wheel or ball.

Example:  

A yellow gumball rolled out.  

The ball rolled through the goalkeeper’s legs.

Pop    verb   /pop/  -->  急(きゅう)に動  /  빠른 드롭  /  cất nhanh  

to quickly put somewhere. 

Example:  

Mark popped it in his mouth. 

He popped the letter into his pocket.

Chew    verb   /tʃuː/  -->  かむ  /  씹다  /  nhai  

to break food between your teeth as a part of eating.

Example:   He chewed and chewed.  If you chew your food properly, it is easier to digest.

Spit    verb   /spit/  -->  つばを吐く  /  뱉다  /  khạc nhổ nước bọt  

to force out the liquid in your mouth 

Example:  

He spit out the gum. 

He took a mouthful of coffee and then spat it out.

Scare    verb   /spit/  -->  を怖がらせる  /  놀래키다  /  làm kinh hãi  

to frighten a person or animal. 

Example:  

He felt scared. 

You’ll scare the baby if you shout

Replacement    noun   /rɪˈpleɪs·mənt/  -->  交換品  /  교체, 대체  /  sự thay thế  

a new thing or person in place of something or someone that was there before  Example:  

The dentist said it was okay because Mark was at the age of teeth replacement.  

It’s not going to be easy to find a replacement for you.

Relieved    adj   /rɪˈliːvd/  -->  ほっとした  /  안도하는  /  nhẹ người  

feeling happy because something bad did not happen. 

Example:  

Mark felt relieved.  

I was relieved to hear you had arrived safely.

Part 3: Summary of the article:

Mark found a shiny penny and kept it in his pocket. While walking, he spotted a gumball machine with colourful gumballs inside. Mark inserted a coin and turned the knob, getting a yellow gumball. He chewed it, but suddenly his tooth started hurting. He spat out the gum and saw his tooth was stuck in it, feeling scared. Lily, his friend, saw and called her mom for help. They took Mark to the dentist, who told him that it was okay because he was at the age of teeth replacement. Mark felt relieved and learned to be cautious with gumballs.
